I believe that all children have the capacity to learn, and that they all deserve the opportunity to do so. I believe that the central mission of schools in the United States is to provide a learning environment that will encourage the emotional, intellectual and social growth of all students. These schools should also encourage technological use in the classroom, along with providing our students a safe learning environment in which to share their ideas. Within the school environment, there are several aspects that I believe will encourage students to achieve at the highest level. These include: strong and committed educators, dynamic English/Language Arts curriculum, and the promotion of respect for all opinions and ideals.
I believe that an educator’s main role is to encourage students’ growth through providing support, encouragement and openness to differing ideas. By helping all students to realize their full potential, educators can make a difference in the education of their students. I believe that by supporting students throughout their school journey, it can facilitate their learning, as they will be able to receive encouragement towards developing their ideas. As an educator, I want to support my students in all of their endeavors, both in and out of the classroom. Teachers cannot simply teach the material to their students, but also must provide a framework in which to build students’ confidence that they can learn.
In U.S. schools, the English/Language Arts classroom is used as a basis for many of the other subjects taught in the schools. I believe that literature and grammar are two of the most important subjects, as they are the vehicle with which all of other content areas can be learned. Many students lose interest in examining literature, which I believe is one of the largest problems to tackle in our schools. In the English/Language Arts classroom, I believe that students should be able to learn in an interesting and amusing manner through a variety of applications. The implementation of drama in conjunction with literature can aid student interest and bring a new dynamic to the classroom. Given the opportunity to step outside the box, students will be able to apply traditional texts and authors to modern life, which will lead to an increase in comprehension and interest. This method also allows students to become self-directed learners and collaborative workers, as it promotes both individual and group work.
Equally important in the classroom is the use of technology. In our growing technological age, students are increasingly fluent in using computers and other digital devices; the inclusion of this in the classroom is vital. By opening up the ways in which teachers can present lesson plans and have students create projects, it allows for increased comprehension and interest. As I progress through my education career, I plan to stay informed of new trends in technology and learn new ways to incorporate them into my classroom. I believe that this will help me to continue growing as an educator and be able to constantly reinvent and make curriculum relevant.
The final aspect of a successful classroom environment is for educators to be aware of and accepting of all different viewpoints and opinions. Society has become extremely diverse, leading to an influx of ideas and cultures in schools. Within the classrooms, teachers need to strive to encourage constructive discussion about differences in opinion and issues that are prevalent in the community. I believe that hosting multicultural nights for schools that include all parents, teachers and students can benefit the school dynamic, as it will encourage all of the school to cohesively come together. Through this, cultures can be talked about and shared, allowing for student growth and understanding. In addition, this can create a shared community experience committed to the education of their students.
I believe that students should be challenged and constantly allowed the opportunity to grow. As an educator, I want to encourage my students to learn about each other and explore the different cultures present in the school. This can be accomplished through the incorporation of technological devices like storytelling websites, and by exploring different genres of literature. I strive to bring the best possible learning environment to my future classroom and students.
